Best Remington 700 Triggers in 2025: Precision Triggers for Bolt-Action Rifles

Published 2025-06-20 · GunDeal Alerts · Price range: $100–$250

The Remington 700 action is the foundation of more custom precision rifles than any other platform. Whether you're building a long-range competition rig, a hunting rifle, or a tactical precision build, the trigger is where accuracy starts. A clean, consistent break at your preferred weight makes the difference between good groups and great ones. Here's what you should buy.

Single-Stage vs Two-Stage for Precision Shooting

Before diving into specific triggers, it's worth understanding the two main types:

Single-stage triggers have one consistent pull weight from start to break. Most bolt-action triggers are single-stage. They're simple, predictable, and allow very light pull weights (down to 8 oz for benchrest). The vast majority of Remington 700 triggers fall into this category.

Two-stage triggers have a lighter first stage followed by a "wall" and a crisp second stage. The Geissele bolt-action triggers are the most notable example. Two-stage designs are gaining popularity in PRS and tactical shooting because the take-up helps prevent unintentional discharges while still offering a light, clean break.

Top Remington 700 Triggers

1. Timney — Best Overall Value

Timney 510 / Calvin Elite
Great <$110 Good $110-$130 Avg $130-$150 High $150+
Based on 2 deals tracked on r/gundeals

Timney has been making Remington 700 triggers since 1946 — literally longer than almost anyone else. The Timney 510 is their standard single-stage drop-in, adjustable from 1.5 to 4 lbs. The Calvin Elite is their premium option with a flat shoe and more refined feel. Both are true drop-in units that require no fitting or gunsmithing.

Pros: Decades of proven reliability, true drop-in, adjustable weight, excellent customer service.
Cons: Not as refined at the lightest weights as TriggerTech or Jewel.

2. TriggerTech Primary & Special — Best Innovation

TriggerTech Primary / Special
Great <$100 Good $100-$130 Avg $130-$170 High $170+
Limited deal data — pricing from retailer averages

TriggerTech's Frictionless Release Technology uses a rolling sear interface instead of traditional sliding friction. The result is a trigger that's remarkably consistent at very light pull weights without creep. The Primary model ($110-130) is their entry point, the Special ($130-170) adds a flat shoe and wider adjustment range, and the Diamond is the premium competition version.

Pros: Innovative rolling sear, zero creep, excellent at light weights, adjustable.
Cons: Newer company, some shooters prefer the traditional feel.

3. Geissele — Best Two-Stage Bolt-Action Trigger

Geissele Rem 700 Trigger
Great <$200 Good $200-$220 Avg $220-$240 High $240+
Limited deal data — pricing from retailer averages

Geissele brought their AR-15 two-stage expertise to the bolt-action world. Their Rem 700 trigger offers the same take-up-then-wall feel that made the SSA-E famous. For PRS and tactical shooters who want a two-stage experience in their bolt gun, this is the trigger to get.

Pros: Excellent two-stage feel, Geissele quality, great for PRS.
Cons: Premium price, two-stage is a different feel than most bolt shooters are used to.

4. Jewel — Best Benchrest Trigger

Jewel HVR / BR
Great <$190 Good $190-$220 Avg $220-$250 High $250+
Rarely discounted — premium benchrest trigger

Jewel triggers are the gold standard in benchrest competition. The BR model can be adjusted down to just a few ounces — light enough that you can barely feel the break. The HVR is the hunting/varmint version with a slightly higher minimum weight and a safety. These are precision instruments for serious precision shooters.

Pros: Lightest adjustable triggers available, benchrest-proven, incredibly consistent.
Cons: Expensive, requires careful adjustment, not ideal for rough field use.

Which Trigger Should You Buy?

For hunting: Timney 510 at ~$120. It's proven, adjustable, drop-in, and just works. Set it at 2.5-3 lbs and forget about it.

For PRS/tactical: TriggerTech Special at ~$150 or Geissele two-stage at ~$240. The TriggerTech is the single-stage choice; Geissele is the two-stage choice.

For benchrest: Jewel BR. Nothing else comes close for ultra-light, zero-creep competition triggers.
